Letters from Lindsey
A Game-Changer for 2025
When was the last time you truly paid yourself first?
As entrepreneurs, we’re often so focused on reinvesting in the business, covering expenses, and keeping the ship afloat that we forget a fundamental truth: we are worth paying.
A few years ago, I stumbled across a book that completely changed how I viewed my business finances. Profit First by Mike Michalowicz taught me a simple but revolutionary concept: shift the formula. Instead of Sales – Expenses = Profit, it’s Sales – Profit = Expenses.
It’s a mindset shift that prioritizes paying yourself—not as an afterthought, but as a non-negotiable. I implemented it, and for years, I saw the results. I saved more money than I ever thought possible, felt more in control of my finances, and found a renewed joy in running my business.
And then, I got busy.
I stopped prioritizing Profit First.
It didn’t take long for the difference to set in. Savings dwindled and my relationship with my business began to feel transactional again.
So this year, I’m hitting the reset button. My business resolution is to get back to those Profit First principles:
It’s not just about money. It’s about empowerment. Paying yourself first reinforces the belief that you deserve the rewards of your hard work. It’s about sustainability, clarity, and a sense of ownership over your future.
I know it can feel scary, especially when you’re juggling expenses, but I promise you, it’s worth it.
This month, I challenge you to ask yourself: Are you paying yourself first? If not, what would it take to start?
I’m right there with you, recommitting to what matters. Let’s make 2025 the year we truly honor the value we bring to our businesses—and our lives.
To profitability and peace,
-Lindsey
