How To Stay Motivated and Actually Accomplish Your New Year’s Resolutions

For many people around the world, the New Year is an opportunity for a fresh start. However, it’s not enough just to set goals at the beginning of the year. You’ll need to stay motivated over the next 12 months so that you can actually achieve them.

Let’s take a look at some of the things you can do to stick to your New Year’s resolutions.

Don’t Spread Yourself Too Thin

We’ve all got a few things we want to accomplish. As the New Year rolls in, it can be tempting to try to pursue all of them at the same time. But as many of us have experienced, that’s a recipe for failure. What you should do instead is focus on as few resolutions as possible. Remember, it’s better to accomplish just one of your goals than none at all. Make the most of the New Year by putting more energy towards the goals that truly matter to you.

Keep Yourself Accountable

The New Year’s resolutions wave will eventually fade away. If you’re looking for a way to keep your momentum going, there’s nothing like adding a bit of risk to the equation. Let’s use the goal of spending more time with family as an example. You’ve decided that you want to visit your parents at least once a month. If you miss a trip, have a friend donate a hundred bucks of your hard earned cash to a cause that you absolutely hate. I’m sure you can think of a few that you’d want nothing to do with. It doesn’t even have to involve money. The point is that if there’s a significant drawback to not pursuing your goals, you’re more likely to take action.

Find Out Why You Want To Do And Do It

Take a step back for a moment and ask yourself: Why are you trying to stick to a particular resolution? Why do you want to exercise more? Maybe it’s because you want to stay strong and healthy as you get older. Why do you want to spend more time with your family? It could be because you want to be closer to them and be a bigger part of their lives. Whatever resolution you may have, you need to dig deep and find out where that particular desire is coming from. Keep asking “why?” until the reason for that goal is clear. If you ever feel like you’re falling off the wagon, look back on why you started in the first place. As long as it’s still something that’s important to you, that should be all the motivation you need. A New Year’s resolution is just the first step. If you want to accomplish those goals, you need to stay driven throughout the year. With focus, accountability, and clarity, you’ll have plenty of motivation to make 2019 your year!!
